Requirements & Application for Sponsorship
[12/11/2025 Update: Unless more sponsors sign up, I likely can’t get any more children sponsored. If I do get more sponsors, I’ll update this message.]
Eligibility Requirements for Adopt-a-Family
To qualify for my Adopt-a-Family program, you must meet all of the following criteria:
Employment or Enrollment
You must currently work at ChristianaCare as an employee or contractor (full-time or part-time). If you’re on FMLA or another approved leave, you still qualify. If you’re part of Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), you also qualify.Parent or Legal Guardian Status
You must be the parent or legal guardian of the child(ren) and/or share the same household.Eligible Children
Only your biological, adopted, or legally-guarded children living with you are eligible. Nieces, nephews, godchildren, stepchildren, or your partner’s children are not eligible unless you are their legal guardian or they live under the same roof.Financial Need
You must affirm that financial challenges prevent you from purchasing holiday gifts for your child(ren).Coaching Requirement
You must complete a financial coaching appointment with me via Zoom before I can match you with a sponsor. An exception will be made if you’ve already had a Zoom consultation with me on or after October 1, 2025.Age and Household Limits
Only children ages 18 or younger are eligible for sponsorship, with a limit of six (6) children per household.
Priority and Program Notes
Until December 1, priority will be given to families who have not previously been sponsored through my program.
Beginning December 1, the program will open to families who have been sponsored before, with priority given to those sponsored the fewest number of times.
This approach isn’t meant to be punitive, but rather to balance limited resources while encouraging ongoing participation in financial coaching. Many repeat caregivers don’t engage in coaching during the year and tend to resurface around the holidays hoping to be sponsored. While there are often valid reasons for that, it can give the impression that the program is being viewed primarily as a free gift initiative rather than a partnership designed to promote lasting financial stability.
If you meet or agree with the above, then please read through the following items:
-
No. Sponsorships are offered on a first-come, first-served basis until Friday, December 12, or until all sponsors have been matched—whichever comes first.
-
After you submit the form below, you’ll be directed to a link where you can schedule your Zoom Consultation. You can also find it here.
[If you’ve had a Zoom Consultation with me on or after October 1, 2025 then you’ve satisfied this requirement. But you’re always welcome to schedule another one!]
Booking the consultation helps move your application along more quickly, though it doesn’t automatically guarantee a match. But scheduling your consultation soon gives you the best chance of being matched.
-
Visit this page after you’ve applied and I’ve confirmed that you were sponsored.
-
Please include only reasonable and affordable items on your gift lists.
Our sponsors are incredibly generous, but they can become overwhelmed when lists include high-cost items such as electric scooters, video games or consoles, tablets, or cell phones.
Remember, these are real people—just like you—who are also purchasing gifts for their own families and loved ones. Please be considerate and avoid taking advantage of their kindness.
P.S. In some cases, sponsors may set a specific budget for your family’s gifts. If that happens, you’re welcome to include any items you wish, as long as they fall within that budget.
-
Your sponsor(s) may not be able to purchase every item on your child’s gift list, and they might also choose a few items that aren’t listed. Sponsors make their selections based on their personal budgets and the availability of certain items.
-
Your street address will be confidential. Amazon only shows your City, State and Zip Code on your gift lists.
-
Privacy and Transparency
Your last name will not be shared with your sponsor(s) this year. Only your first name will be visible.
If you have a unique first name and would prefer additional privacy, you may provide a nickname or shortened name to be used instead.
The Adopt-a-Family program values both integrity and transparency. Some fields in the form are for my records only and will not be shared with sponsors, while others will be visible to them. Each field is clearly marked below to show whether it’s for internal use or for sponsor sharing. In rare cases, information such as your email address or phone number may be shared only with your permission, if a sponsor requests to contact you regarding your gifts.
There are two main purposes for this approach:
Promoting Integrity
Because participants are still identifiable by name (even if partial), caregivers are less likely to misuse the program. For example, someone known to take frequent luxury vacations is less likely to apply, since partial identity disclosure encourages accountability.Enhancing Sponsor Connection
Sharing limited, non-sensitive details allows sponsors to personalize their giving. They may choose alternate or additional items for your child(ren), or occasionally wish to include something for you. When appropriate, they may request permission to contact you directly to confirm details or preferences.
This balance between privacy and transparency helps protect your personal information while maintaining the program’s fairness and integrity.
-
Adopt-a-Family operates on the Honor System. I’m trusting that you genuinely have financial limitations that prevent you from purchasing holiday gifts for your child(ren).
You will not be asked to provide proof that you’re the parent or legal guardian, proof of your child(ren)’s ages, or documentation of your income, budget, or spending. This program runs on trust and good faith.
By participating, you’re affirming that the gifts you receive will go directly to the child(ren) they’re intended for—and that they will not be sold, traded, or listed for sale in any form (whether online, in person, or otherwise).
The integrity of this program is absolutely essential. Your honesty ensures that it continues to bless families who truly need it.
-
Your sponsor(s) will purchase gifts directly from your Amazon Holiday Gift List, and Amazon will ship the items straight to your home. Please note that exact delivery dates cannot be guaranteed.
-
Once your gifts arrive, please remember to send Thank You messages to your sponsor(s). The simplest way is through your Amazon Gift Lists when you see that items have been purchased and shipped.
However, I encourage you to go a step further by creating an eCard or even a physical card to show your appreciation. I can help coordinate delivery of your card(s) to your sponsor(s).
More details will be provided in December regarding this matter.
